Frequently Asked Questions

My schedule is hectic. Between work, school, kids, life, etc. I don't know how I'll find the time to get the help that I need. Can you work with me? 

Sure! Moye Library is open from 8-10 PM Monday-Thursday. We are open on Friday from 8-4:00 PM, and on Sunday from 1-10 PM. There is always someone available to help during those hours and, if you make an appointment with our Reference Librarian or another library staff member, we can look into your research question ahead of time. All you need to do is give us a call, send us an email, or ask a question on our Library Chat service. 

When I am talking to someone on Library Chat, will it always be a Moye Library librarian?  

No, but there will always be a librarian willing to help on the other end! :)  Our chat service is 24/7, so other librarians volunteer to staff the service when we are not online. Often, if the library is open, one of us is on the chat service. 

If I don't see someone typing back to me should I stop chatting? 

Please do not do that. We want to help and we type as fast as we can. If you have not gotten a response within 5 minutes, please call us or send an email as something is wrong. However, different internet speeds and connectivity issues can cause a slight lag in response time on chat service. 

Can I renew my books online? 

Absolutely! You can renew each book that you check out one time. Renewing a book move the due date back by one loan period (one month). To renew a book online, log in to your personalized Discovery account and choose "My Account" from the dropdown menu under your name. You can then view the items that you have checked out, select the item(s) that you wish to renew, and choose to renew them. If you have exceeded the maximum amount of renewals allowed, you will not be able to renew the book and will need to return it on the due date indicated on your account.  

Do you have textbooks in the library? 

No. It is each individual student's responsibility to obtain their textbooks, whether you choose to rent or purchase them. We do not keep textbooks in the library. We do have scholarly books that you can use for class papers and projects. 

Can you get a textbook for me through Interlibrary Loan? 

No. We cannot get textbooks through Interlibrary Loan because the Interlibrary Loan service is intended to support individual research. Using it to provide necessary class materials would go against this policy. 

Will my professor accept eBooks? Is an eBook an "online resource"? 

Usually, when professors talk about "online resources" they mean websites. However, it is always a good idea to check with your professor to confirm their specific policies on eBook use. An eBook is exactly the same thing as a print book, it is just displayed on a screen instead of printed. You can even take notes and highlight in eBooks, which you cannot do with our print books! eBooks are instantly available to you through the library website, while print books can take 7-10 days to arrive to you. 

Do you provide resources outside of those needed for class? 

In addition to scholarly resources, Moye Library has popular fiction, streaming video, popular eBooks, career and test preparation resources, language learning, and more! See the "Library Extras" tab in this guide for some ideas! 

I want to keep the book I borrowed. Can I do that? Can the library order books for me to keep if I cannot find them for sale? 

No. These books are part of the library's collection and are intended to be borrowed. If you do not return a book, you will be charged a replacement fee and processing costs...which is a little more expensive than Amazon.

You may request that we purchase a book to add to the library collection. If we decide to add the book to the collection, you may have the first option to borrow the book, but it is still library property and will need to be returned by its due date. 

HELP! I lost a book!

If you loose a book, let us know.We would rather know it is lost and replace it than mark it overdue for months. You will need to pay replacement and processing costs for the book and will be invoiced for these costs.
